Hey, kids. Happy Friday. This morning I read this article which is an opinion piece from the NY Times, written by Richard Gephart. It's called "Defend the Country, Not the Party" and is directed at our pal George Dubya. Similar feelings were recently conveyed in an emotional speech given by Tom Daschle, as we all probably saw on the news a few days ago. Also in today's NY Times is an article about how Edward Kennedy feels that George is going about this situation with Iraq in the wrong manner and is endangering the "War on Terrorism" by doing so. Any of you who have read past pieces in this journal have probably deduced that I do not disagree with these fine gentlemen. However, I do find it comical that we never heard a peep from the dudes until Al Gore had the balls to speak up about all of this while in San Francisco about a week ago. Even more interesting is the fact that two of these guys are accusing George of using these conflicts basically as a tool to get re-elected and to get more Republicans elected to the House, while all this time they've been keeping mum about it all. Only now, after Al broke some ground and actually spoke up, do they jump on his bandwagon. Aren't they using the issue as a weapon in party-politics? Isn't that why they never said anything until they figured out that there are a lot of us out here who have unanswered questions and more than a few reservations about our current governmental situation? Bunch of chicken shits. |
