Jesus help me... So I just went upstairs to balance out our credit card terminal. Joe (one of the guys who works for me) is sitting up there gabbing with salespeople. He was rather startled to see me and it was therefore obvious that he was talking about the whole Hilda-flabber-jabby. I just said hello to everybody and went about my bidness. Then I overheard him telling the salespeople that I must be there to check up on him. OK, now I'm pissed. I have never been the type of boss who is constantly looking over everybody's shoulder, first of all. Believe me when I tell you that I very well could be, because there is an awful lot of socializing going on around these parts. Hell, the people who work for me have even been known to play croquet and soccer in front of my office (yes, indoors). But in my book, if they need to blow off some steam every once in a while I don't care, so long as they do their jobs (which they do). Where did this comment come from? The second and bigger issue is that I have been trying, oftentimes in vain, to develop positive relationships with our sales staff (credit and sales often butt heads). I don't need a member of our team filling their heads with impressions of me which aren't even true. I'm having a bad day. |
