I woke up at 5:59am on Saturday. I rolled over, tried to wipe a significant amount of sand from my eyes (virus in the eyes, remember?), gazed through the sleep-fog at my clock and thought, doesn't my brain realize it's freakin' Saturday?. Since I was awake anyway, I got out of bed and went potty. By that time, I was really awake and so I turned on CNN and crawled back in to bed, hoping the news would eventually put me back to sleep. Not a great wake-up call. Of course, I am writing about the Space Shuttle Columbia, which exploded and broke up over Texas, just a few minutes away from landing safely back in Florida. Seven courageous lives lost. So very sad. There must be a special place in heaven for those people who are brave in a way most of us could not even imagine. |
