"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

Why is this even news?

"Sinead O'Connor Bids Farewell to Music Business

Controversial Irish singer Sinead O'Connor, once famously booed offstage for tearing up the Pope's picture, declared on Thursday that she's had it with the music business and with being famous..."

I meanI have nothing against Sinead OConnor and I think shes done some fine workyou know, like fifteen years ago. Didnt the music business quit her a long time ago (like right around the same time she became a Priest or something)? Saying that she is now going to quit the music business is justwellnot news. Plus, she asks that since she no longer wants to be famous that we all leave her alone.

UmOK! Will do!

In other famous people news, God Bless Roseanne Cash.

As you may know, I have been deeply opposed to the war in Iraq since the beginning, for reasons which I have outlined in the past. Now, with the overthrow of Saddam Hussein appearing to be imminent, if not already accomplished, I remain opposed in principle to the means which took us there, in defiance of the U.N. and most of our former allies, and the price we have paid and will continue to pay in human lives, economic disaster, material destruction, and the redirecton of funds desperately needed here at home to provide 'services' for Iraq, some of which are not available to many people here in the United States (100% health care? How about starting in our own backyard?) I still believe that a) it won't be long before the corporations who have vested interests and who advise the Pentagon and lobby Congress will start dividing up the oil fields, and b) that our grandchildren and possibly great-grandchildren will be cleaning up the mess we have created; politically, diplomatically and spiritually, and c) we will suffer major repercussions here at home, having inflamed the entire Middle East with our 'doctrine of pre-emption'. I also believe that the First Amendment is the most important tenet of our Constitution, that dissent is healthy, and that if there had never been dissent in America, then women would still not have the vote and we'd still have separate drinking fountains for 'white' and 'colored'. To those who say that it is 'inappropriate' to oppose the war once it started, and that we must support our troops, I say: I passionately support our troops and have great sympathy and respect for the men and women who respond to their own call to duty. I learned that respect by witnessing the life of my Uncle Joe. I pray for their safe return, and these are not empty words; I actually DO pray for them. I also say that to tell an American when it is appropriate for them to have an opinion, or when they can express it, is most definitely UN-American. Dissent by permission is not dissent, it is thinly disguised fascism, and does not uphold the standards of freedom of the United States. No matter how much I disagree with you, no matter even if I hate what you say or think, I will be unwavering in my support of your right to say it, because I defend and adhere to the Constitution and the basic principle of freedom of speech. I am a patriot, I am a liberal, I am a peacenik and a mother and wife, an activist, a writer and singer, and a world citizen. The reason I am not afraid to say I am all these things, is because I am also an American

Let our private souls now be revealed.

With love,

Roseanne Cash

Mrs L

I found the link to Roseannes page on a new (well, new to me) blog by a seemingly groovy woman, Amanda. And I would like her way of expressing herself even without the numerous Springsteen references.

She was among my discoveries while surfing the web this morning. Ive also added a few peeps to my d-land favorites list. What the hell? Pretty soon, I will have time to do nothing except read journals, columns and news on the web.

Karen, you look so pale these dayswhen was the last time you saw the sun?

John was telling me last weekend about SUV-harassers up in his neck of the woods. For those who do not know, Santa Cruz, California is the liberal-hippie capitol of the known universe. Yeah, baby! Well, it seems the hippies are all up-in-arms lately and getting sick of seeing one (meaning, he's not car-pooling) lone tie-wearing dude driving the freeways in his 12 mph-getting SUV, so they decided to speak out about it.

Now, we all know that I am no fan of the SUV and I will not get in to that again here (in spite of the fact that the Bush administration has managed to bully the state of California into backing off its pledge to make all cars here burn cleaner by the end of the decade; and despite the fact that Ford recently backed off of its own pledge to have cleaner burning SUVs that get more mph on the market by the year 2013), but even though I might agree with these people in principal, I do not agree with the ways in which they are voicing their opinions. Evidently, its not enough to simply put a flier on the window of an SUV letting its owner know that hes driving a gas-guzzling hog for no good reason and during a time of war which, whether you like it or not, we wouldnt be fighting if not for our dependence of foreign oil. No, thats not enough. Now theyve taken to spray-painting the SUVs.

OK

A. If you spray-paint my boyfriend's truck (he drives a Blazer. He actually gets almost as many miles per gallon of gas as I do in my Nissan, but mainly because he works on cars and knows how to rig it so it gets better gas mileage than most trucks. And its not like any of these paint-toting morons are going to know that), I will hunt you down and spray paint your throat after I shove the paint can into it. I am not kidding, here. He does not have the funds to re-paint his truck and Id rather he spend what money he has on keeping me happy.

B. I saw your little fliers people. Not only are they not printed on recycled paper, they are printed on light card stock. I know. I worked for a division of International Paper for two years. Card stock is twice as thick as normal paper. Before you get on your environmental high horse, perhaps you should think about the number of trees you are killing in this pointless endeavor. And I say its pointless because anyone who would own an SUV right now obviously doesnt see things your way even though, unless theyve been living in said SUV for the past two years and that SUV has been parked in a cave somewhere in the middle of the Mojave, theyve already heard those arguments. Plus, that paint you're using on that guy's Lincoln Navigator does just as much environmental harm as the emissions from two tanks of his gas.

C. You have absolutely NO RIGHT to vandalize anyones property or otherwise disrupt their lives and livelihood to further your own political beliefs. Especially when you have no idea who this person is and for all you know he may cart around a Navigator full of senior citizens after work or something. Maybe he needs the room for a valid reason. Discuss before you spray, that's all I'm saying.

By the wayI really hate web sites with stinkin fairy graphics on them. Just thought Id let yall know. Also, anything that still has a picture of the Crow on it. Come on, people. It wasnt even that good a movie and yes the manner in which he died was sad, but the truth is...he's dead. The whole "crow/coming back from the dead" concept was just a movie. Its been like ten years. Get over it.

~~~
Glad I got all that off my chest. Have a nice weekend, yall.
Peace, love and *smooches*!
