OH! I forgot this one little funny tid-bit... So Sunday, John and I were watching Bridget Jones' Diary. Yes, we'd seen it previously, but you know - funny flick so we watched it again. For those of you who don't know, I love me some Colin Firth. I have loved him since I saw the A&E remake of Pride and Prejudice low those many moons ago. Colin simply IS Mr. Darcy; even more so than Lawrence Olivier although, in all fairness, that film was not even two hours long and cut out about half of the story whereas the A&E version was like eight hours long and included the full story. At any rate...Mr. Firth is a doll. Now, John knows all about my lust for George Clooney and cares not a whit. Aside from the rather obvious fact that George is not exactly beating down my front door (yet), I actually think John has a bit of a man-crush on Mr. Clooney himself (I never should have let him watch Oceans Eleven). So he understands the lust, is my point. At some point in the flick yesterday, John said something about how he admires the way in which Colin's character (also conveniently called Mr. Darcy) speaks with such eloquence. I then volunteered the fact that I find him to be lust-worthy in extremis. So at the end, when Mr. Darcy and Bridget are standing in the street, in the snow, smooching all over each other...well, you know...I was watching the movie. That's all I was doing! No drool was escaping my lips or anything, but yes I was...caught up in the moment. All of a sudden, John knocks me out of my daze by saying: "OK, knock it off. I can feel the puddle forming from over here!" Crude, yes, but I still found it all rather amusing. See, John always gets jealous of people he thinks I have something in common with intellectually or artistically because he thinks (knows?) we have no connection in this area. I guess this includes fictional characters from movies, now. |
