Important issue first...

I think that Coral was completely unfair to Mike on last nights Real World/Road Rules Challenge, The Gauntlet! He wanted to vote for her to go to the Gauntlet, you see, and rightfully so since she hasnt been doing well in any of the events. She was very upset because he is her homie and they apparently made a deal that they wouldnt vote for each other in this way.

Well, thats a totally stupid deal to make in the first place. Moreover, he was right in voting for her last night. It wasnt personal. She might have thought him a bad friend for voting for her; I thought her a bad friend for bringing their friendship to bear and making him feel guilty in a situation that had nothing to do with their friendship.

This is why we should never participate in competitive reality shows with friends or loved ones. Take note, kids.

Some degree of good news in regard to our blazing fires in that the winds are supposed to die down significantly this afternoon. Also, the temperature around here is supposed to drop by ten degrees by tomorrow; twenty by Thursday. We even have a chance of some light rain by Saturday.

Lets all pray, shall we? Seriously.

The toll is now up to 512,000 acres burned; 1,137 homes lost; 15 deaths. The fires cover Southern California from the Mexican border all the way North to Ventura County.

Keep an eye out for this guy, will ya?

Investigators are seeking two men in their early or mid-20s who were seen throwing flaming objects from a van along Highway 18. The suspects were seen driving a light gray Chevrolet or Dodge van with a full window in the rear.

And please, make a donation to the American Red Cross.

It's about the same here. Smoky, but not too bad. I did walk to work with no problem. Did you here that the huge San Diego fire with 11 people dead was started by some stupid ass hunter? He was lost and decided to start a signal fire. The IQ of the majority of people with guns is really scary to me.

Gotta go.

Working.

Well, actually it was a faulty flare gun he used that started the fire. He shot off a flare gun because he was lost. Still insane, though.

The more horrible thing is that they know the San Bernardino fire was started by arson. Do you remember the Rim of the World school there on Hwy. 18 on the way to Lake Arrowhead? Its being threatened this morning, terribly. The fire is right across Hwy. 18 from it. They were showing it on the news this morning. It kind of looked like so long as the wind didnt change they could save the school...

Speaking of IQs though...the news was interviewing this guy who lived up there. His entire area had been evacuated and yet he was there. And you know what he says? Im not gonna leave until I just cant get out of here. He said that twice.

Well, if you cant get out of there, ya numb nuts, youre gonna burn to death! I mean, dont these morons watch the news? Dont they know how many people have died because they waited too long to leave? Is the chance to save your living room sofa really worth the loss of your life?

People are just so freakin stupid about some things. I know it would be absolutely horrible to lose your home, but your piddly little garden hose aint gonna do anything about that fire anyway. Wouldnt you rather your kids grow up with a father?

OK, Im off my soapbox. Sorry. I just couldnt believe that guy.

I am still coughing like crazy, by the way. I started coughing before the fires, though. I think its walking in the evening when it gets damp and cold. As soon as the sun starts to go down around here, the fog moves in and the temperature drops like 20 degrees, rapidly. I love that about this area, but I think walking and getting all heated up and then the temperature drops...well, I dont think it did me any good.

Of course, now its dark out by the time I get home and I dont want to walk after dark, by myself. I am going to try and get out of bed a little early to walk, but the truth is the sun isnt up for all that long before I have to get ready for work. I dont know if Ill even have time to walk much in the mornings. Maybe a mile or two is all, which is not going to help me much. I guess it wouldnt be as dangerous walking at like 6:00 am, even if the sun is still not out...

I called Linda last night. She has talked to Carla and they are fine. The fire is nowhere near them, but they are drowning in smoke. Are either of them working right now? I know Carla applied at the casino out there, but thats all I heard about either of them.

Talk to ya later.

Regards,
Karen

Carla called Mom on Sunday. All I heard is that John just finished his truck driving school and Carla was still getting her resume together... Amy says their house is just beautiful and that Carla already has everything decorated and there are no boxes in sight. She thought that was really Carla. You know, she is a Virgo, right? They are the ones that "have a place for everything and everything is in it's place". If she isn't a Virgo, she may as well be!

That's funny, the report I heard said the hunter started a fire to signal he needed rescuing. Shows you how the media says just about what they want to say. I saw the Arrowhead fire, yeah. Dr. Norviel's sister has a home up there. They don't know the condition yet. Did you hear that Sondra's friend Maxine's mother lost her house in Claremont? She did.

Seeya!

Oof! Bummer about that house in Claremont! Sondra went ga-ga over it when she was there for a party once. They were showing all the homes burning in Claremont on the news this weekend and I was commenting to John about how cool those houses were...used to be...

But, you know...its very sad, yes, but I get tired of the news focusing on the million dollar homes that go up in flames. I mean, those people have insurance and they certainly have the money to replace what is replaceable. Its still horrible and something I would never want to have to face, but I feel worse for the people like out in Devore who obviously dont have that kind of money. I mean, they moved out there to begin with because land is cheap out there. You know a lot of them probably arent insured and if they are it may well be for a bare minimum of coverage.

I dont know Carlas sign, actually. What is August 20? I thought Virgo was in September, right before Libras...anyway, yes that sounds totally like her! I was just talking the other day about how she drowns her house in Lysol, just like Dad used to do. And she wipes her doggies butts when they make wee wee.

Regards,
Karen

Quote a Day:
I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened. --Mark Twain

Inspiration for the Day:
After surviving breast cancer, Trish May wanted a way to give back. "What I wanted to do was create a product where people could make a difference every single day," said May. "You don't have to run a 10K to contribute. You don't have to go to an expensive gala." So the former Microsoft marketing executive founded Athena Bottled Water which donates 100 percent of profits to women's cancer research. She hopes it's an easy choice for consumers to make: buy a water that benefits a company, or one that pays for research into women's cancers.
