Well, they finally found Chandra Levys body yesterday. Actually, a jogger found it in a park in DC. The cops had looked there before - obviously they didnt look hard enough. Its so sad. I feel very sad for her parents. This sort of thing always bugs me for more than just the obvious reasons, though. Of course its extremely sad, but the thing is there are a lot of missing people in this world. Because Chandra Levy had an affair with an elected official (U.S. Rep. Gary Condit) though, her case gets all of the attention. In fact, on the news lat night there was a story that she may in fact be the victim of a serial killer. Turns out two others girls have disappeared from the same area in the last year and have never been found. Why did we never hear about those girls? Obviously, its good for any such case to get a lot of media attention. The more attention a case gets, it seems, the faster the person is found and the case solved. It just really irks me that we dont have fair treatment of crime victims in this country. Just look at the Nicole Brown case. Horrible, horrible, but how much attention did most people pay to the guy who got killed with her? Sheesh, I cant even remember his name now! And that stinkin Jean-Benet caseshe was a cute, little blonde girl and so her case received all of this media attention (for better or worse). How many cute little black girls go missing each year and we never hear about them? It just irks me. Like I said, I think the media attention can be a very useful tool. I just dont know who determines which missing person cases are going to be focused on and how that determination is made. Obviously a major point in making that determination is how famous the person or their family members or possible sexual partners are and that disgusts me. OK, end of rant. I had a rather stressful morning. Just lots to do and one of my customers really pissed me off. I ended up going out to lunch, in an effort to recover. I had Mexican food. Yum. I actually didnt eat that much most of it came back with me, so I can have leftovers. I really just needed to get out of the office for a while. It helped immensely. The afternoon has been fine, except that I now find that I have no desire whatsoever to work. |
