**REMINDER - THIS IS ALL SIMPLY MY OPINION**

Scientology has become this weeks obsession for me. For weeks its been ghostsNext week Ill be on to something else. Maybe it will be something that is actually interesting to other people, like Anthropology or somethingI just started reading about the Church of Scientology (COS) last week as a fluke. It started out because Earthlink (the Internet Service Provider) is in big trouble (fraud) and I was reading about that. It turns out that the guy who started Earthlink is a Scientologist and that just got me reading about a lot of different stuff. Its very interesting, really, but scary and very sad for those people who get caught up in theirwell, what I think is brainwashing, really.

Scientology has tons of companies that are tied to them and nobody knows until they get sucked in. They use professional sounding names like Sterling Management Systems (which is supposedly a company set up to help doctors, dentists and those types of professionals run the business end of their practice) because they know that if people see the word Scientology or even Dianetics in their information, most sane people would just throw it away. They have all kinds of companies that cater to things like Childrens Education, helping homeless people; they even have healthcare partners; all stuff that normal, caring people would want to look in to and theyre all companies set up to pull you in to Scientology. They also run Narconon, which was a huge surprise. They prey on weak-willed and minded people, of course, and addicts would be prime candidates. Whats so sad is that people go there looking for help and they end up way worse off. In fact, I was reading some articles from like Time magazine and stuff quoting all of these health care professionals who say that there is nothing of value in the Narconon program and that it is actually harmful to those people.

I even asked John if that seminar (PSI) he attended had anything to do with Scientology. I doubt it does, because they get to the end and thats the end. Plus, it does actually seem to help people and what I know of what he learned makes senseBut that hard-sell is the same (theyre still bugging John about taking the second level; and they still bug his sister about selling it to people the pressure they put on her sounds very similar). It wouldnt surprise me if the people who started up PSI either are tied to Scientology or they used to belong to COS and learned a lot from them.

Scientology figures out ways to make you continue to think youre so screwed up that you need to pour money in to their programs like youve taken a back slide and need more and more and more of their stuff. And of course questioning any of it is just a sign that you need more of their services. And people who have reached the highest levels of enlightenment (what they call being clear) do not ever get sick. All illness is in your head cuz youre screwed up (actually, youre being inhabited by the souls of beings who were tortured millions of years ago its all so wacky). So if you happen to get a cold, you need more of their services (therefore needing to spend more money). Therefore, a lot of Scientologists with real illnesses like cancer and stuff do not get the medical help they need and end up dieing. Theyve been sued so many times; its unreal. And they have never won a suit no matter what side theyre on (one of their big intimidation factors is to bring lots and lots of suits against people).

Tom Cruise and John Travolta, et al, are not good examples. The Church of Scientology actually has a celebrity center that caters to those types of people specifically (for the PR value) and it is very different then what the average Joe goes through. However, one rumor I read a couple of days ago (I stress the word rumor, cuz it was just on someones anti-COS web page) is that both Tom and John want to leave COS (I actually heard John say on the Tonight Show that he didnt agree with the people who run COS now), but are afraid of the backlash. The rumor is that they are afraid their homosexual-tendencies will be made even more public if they leave. COS is BIG on intimidation. For ex-Scientologists, they use the personal information youve given them in your private auditing sessions (kind of like counseling, but you have to pay even more for it and its senseless except that it puts you in a trance-like euphoria and you are more susceptible to giving them money that you probably dont even have) and they make it public to trash you whether to your friends or in a very public sense. They REALLY intimidate theyve created smear campaigns against people and stuff. They come right out and make up lies or manipulate the truth about politicians and business owners and ex-Scientologists and stuff anyone the think in an enemy or a Subversive Person. Its like some made up mafia story! No wonder Im fascinatedL. Ron Hubbard himself dictated that these types of tactics should be used. And they do this on all kinds of levels. Sure, they do it to people who actively criticize COS, but even if they think you are causing trouble in the church itself theyll just do it in your little environment with your co-workers and friends and stuff. And if all of your friends are COS people and they cant talk to you (which happens if you get in trouble with them or are classified as an SP), you get pushed in to a corner.

If they sense youre headed for trouble (like youre questioning their actions or policies) they are very big on isolating you. The really scary stuff is that they actually kidnap people they take them, against their will, to like hotel rooms. The only people who have access to you are other COS people. They keep your family and friends away and youre not even allowed access to a phone. They say, of course, that they are doing this for your own good and health. This has of course gotten them in to some serious trouble, but its also meant the death of at least a few people people who were sick and denied medical attention and people who ended up committing suicide either cuz theyre left so fucked up or are so broke they see no way out. Of course, once youre out of money, COS drops you and has nothing to do with you, leaving you to your own devices and fucked in the head.

I was reading Scientologys own web pages last night, trying to see their side of itfrankly I have no idea why anyone with half a brain would buy in to any of it in the first place. Most of what they say makes no logical sense in the first place. All you have to do is ask a few pertinent questions or ask for a little clarification and youd see that. But you dont find out the more ludicrous stuff until youre already into it and have already paid thousands of dollars and are half brain-dead. And anyone who does even the slightest bit of research on L. Ron Hubbard knows he was a huge liar and fraud (he made up all kinds of stories about himself, to make it seem as if he had a scientific foundation for his beliefs) and why on earth would you believe anything coming out of his mouth?

Scientology has actually been outlawed in England and Australia and other supposedly free countries because all it is really is a money-making scheme, but of course in America we have to let them exist. And of course they are not a church at ALL and only use that title for tax-evasion purposes. It has nothing to do with religion. Ive been reading about them for a week and I know that where the hell is our government?

Odd

OK, I just read an article in Sports Illustrated about these four guys who wanted to be the first to ski and snowboard from the top of some high mountain in Alaska (not the highest, but I cant remember the name) down to the ocean. Two ended up dieing. Of the other two, one only made it about half way up because of some health problem and the other stopped short of the peak and headed down because of imperfect weather conditions.

Ive decided that if anything would be worse than drowning or suffocating to death it would be to fall in to a seemingly bottomless crevasse.

Although your body would be well preserved. A million years from now, archeologists (or whatever theyll be called then) will find all kinds of people hanging from ropes and stuff on mountains. Theyll be like the best preserved of our samples. Theyre going to think we were all in just incredibly good shape, but find it odd that our sense of fun was to tempt death on a regular basis.

I still dont feel very well. I went to bed at like 9:00 last night, slept like a rock until my alarm went off (which in itself in practically unheard of. I always wake up like 20 minutes before my alarm goes off) and am still dragging with no energy. Well, at least Ill be going to the doctor in a couple of weeks so if its all still going on I can talk to him about it.
