Happy Birthday To: Carroll O'Connor, born in 1924 Carroll OConnor has always reminded me of my dad. I think I wrote about that here before. My dad is much more attractive and is much smaller, but a lot of Carroll OConnors facial expressions totally look like my dads. This was especially the case when he was on All in the Family. The thing is, you cant say to your dad, Hey, you totally remind me of Archie Bunker and expect that statement to be well-received. ~~~ email eavesdrop (because Im still busy as all hell): -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Sent: Monday, August 02, 2004 4:06 PM To: Karen Subject: (no subject) Can you believe that Kerry's numbers haven't gone up since the convention? They expect a big jump right after a convention and it didn't happen. Pretty much stayed the same. I will be so disgusted if the people of this country re-elect G. Weiner. And if Ralph Nader screws up another election, I think he better leave the country. He's gonna get offed. I'm telling you, I'll be so disillusioned, I won't know what to do. It was bad enough that they elected him in the first place but to actually re-elect him? I won't be able to take it! b -----Original Message----- From: Karen Sent: Monday, August 02, 2004 4:22 PM To: Barbara Subject: (no subject) Here's the thing - most people right now have definite opinions one way or t'other. They are not going to change their minds. The number of people who are up for grabs this time out is only like 8% of the population. I think that's the only reason the numbers haven't changed much. Unless something major happens, I don't think the numbers will change and we won't really know what's going to happen until it happens. Plus, we have another "terror scare" to deal with right now - conveniently timed right after the convention, if you ask me. Interesting how that's what people are talking about on the news now. I would not be surprised, though, if something major does happen before the election - like we miraculously find Ossama, or there is another terrorist attack. My only hope is that the something major is instead something that doesn't benefit Bush. So Bill Maher has a show on HBO where he leads panel discussions. Saturday night, Michael Moore and a few others were on. Ralph Nader then came on as a surprise guest...and both Bill Maher and Michael Moore got down on their knees and begged him not to run. I feel the same way, Barbara. What Bush and Company have managed to tear apart in only four years has been insane - can you imagine what they will do if we give them another four years? And I don't understand how anyone could vote for the man. Even if you agree with what he's done militarily (insane, but I assume there are people who still agree with him), he's made such a shambles of every other aspect of running this country. He is, in my estimation anyway, certainly the worst president we've had in my lifetime; I'd even hazard to say in this century. And it's not just that he's bad - it's scary, the things he wants to do to this country (and already has, thanks to the Patriot Act and other stuff). And let's not even discuss the fact that if he gets another four years, he will be responsible for the appointment of even more judges, including Supreme Court judges. How anyone who actually loves this country can actually support men who seem determined to completely change it to suit their design is completely beyond me. The only explanation is that they just aren't really paying attention to what has been going on for the past three years. So long as they don't pull an Ossama out of their hat, though, I think we can beat them. A whole lotta people are really, really pissed. I think voter turn-out will be great and a lot of people who have never voted before will vote. But it's gonna be close. And if we don't win, don't be surprised if I end up moving to Canada. I'm ordering Kerry/Edwards shirts to wear on the 3 Day. I didn't call cuz Arnett was home and I didn't want him to hear this. He gets so upset by things like this. I was leaving Walmart and I see this huge SUV (the biggest Lexus SUV there is) with bumper stickers all over it. There were alot of religious and Bush/Cheny ones and then there was one that said, and I quote.... REAL CHRISTIANS VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!!!! I was so disgusted I almost waited to see what fool came out and claimed that car. Then I thought I'd write a note and leave it on the windshield. I had to make myself not do anything. Can you imagine anything more ignorant? I have no words. b -----Original Message----- From: Karen Sent: Monday, August 02, 2004 4:40 PM To: Barbara; Mom Subject: Re: (no subject) Of course, the problem is whatever note you write won't do any good anyway. Well, did you know that many in the Catholic church, including (apparently) the Pope, think that Dubya is the Anti-Christ and claim to be able to prove it by discussing the Book of Revelations? And of course, the ol' Anti-C will fool many when he comes, now won't he? Hmm...
