OK, the good news first.

While John does have high blood pressure, it is apparently not so high as to entice everyone in to pill-popping hysteria. His heart, kidneys and liver are all functioning properly and in a healthy manner. So they are going to try and control his BP with diet and exercise. He will be re-tested in three weeks to see how thats working. His Cholesterol, over-all, is not too bad. However, his Triglycerides are high. They are again going to try and get a handle on this via diet and exercise and he will be re-tested in four months.

Also, I got a letter last night from the male member of my ex-roommates (John and Michele). This was fabulous and I shall be sending them an email shortly (they're a married couple).

Part two of todays entry is not sowell, at the very least it has all left me irritable.

I just called Lou to see what time I needed to meet him for rehearsal tomorrow, in preparation for Saturday nights party. I was told were not rehearsing because the party was cancelled. We are now rehearsing on Sunday.

My extremely (if I do say so myself) polite response was: OK, I need to ask something of you. When changes like this happen, please inform me as soon as possible. I am a very busy person and I completely rearranged my week to allow for the rehearsal and party.

All of which is true. I postponed a training walk which was to take place tomorrow, because of the rehearsal. Now I find out I didnt have to do that? People count on me to lead those training walks. Also, I almost went up to Santa Cruz over the weekend and did not do so because of the scheduled party. Amy is going up there to visit the Cal State Santa Cruz campus. She and her boyfriend are renting a car to make the drive. My thought was I could just drive up there with them, then they could use my car while I played around with John all weekend (dont worry, she invited me). Of course, now we have a Sunday rehearsal; plus I have scheduled a kayak trip for Saturday morning and am also taking my car in to the dealership to take care of yet another recall notice (which I don't even have the patience to get in to; ya'll know about my myriad of car problems)...but the plain truth is, without the party I would have gone to Santa Cruz, postponed my car issue and not gone kayaking (or better yet, I would have gone up there). I dont even really need to be at Sundays rehearsal. They could learn the music stuff first, then I could meet with them at the next rehearsal to add my bits.

It all works out, I guessplus, I need to remember that things were always like this when I was a Mocosito and since Lou and Original Mike are both again involved, here, I shouldnt expect anything different now should I? At least I kept my cool and simply told Lou that I need prompt communication. Now if it still continues I will be justified in getting pissed.

But stillergh

And now an email eavesdrop., in order to explain my other frustrations of the day:

Good morning.

Well hey that went well!

And yes, that is sarcasm you are interpreting.

Rarely have I met a more frustrating individual. She absolutely refuses to see why anyone would interpret her as rude. All she did was argue with me and offer up justification for her behavior. It was a waste of time, as far as that goes, and I expect things with her to only get worse until she either quits or we have to fire her.

Its all so stupid. Robert and I have talked about her many times before. Her job performance is fine its her fd up attitude that is gonna do her in. And thats just her personality there is no training in the world that can change her, I dont think. In her mind, she is the only one here who is doing her job and so she should be beyond reproach. Plus, that opinion makes her bitter she gets pissed because her perception is that others arent working (because they also have fun, while theyre working. She only hears the fun part. I mean, come on do you think Id let people get away with not doing their work????). Of course, what someone else in the department is or is not doing is none of her business in the first place. But regardless, none of that is an excuse to be a bitch.

So shes sitting there telling me how everyone else in the department is so mean to her and Im the only one who even says good morning to her and all of thisand I cant just come right out and say, Well, missy, maybe if you werent such a bitch people would be more friendly toward you. I mean, most of the time even when I say good morning her response is to practically grunt at me. Who wants to deal with that?

ErghSorry, I needed to vent and obviously I cant go talk to someone else here.

And how are you this morning?

:)

We did get good news about John, but Ill call you and tell you that.

Regards,
Karen

So of course I spoke with this gal later, after she had spent some time with the HR manager (without me). And now I feel bad for her.

Dammit!

BUSH STIFFS WORKERS ON OVERTIME

While touting the economy this month, President Bush said, "A more productive worker makes more money" (1). But if he has his way on new overtime regulations, that will no longer be the case for tens of thousands of workers.

In a move designed to blur the issue, the Administration today said it was revising its previous effort to terminate overtime protections for 8 million workers (2). But even by the Bush Administration's own admission, the "new" regulations will mean that tens of thousands of lower-income workers will be cut off (3). Opponents of the Administration's plan say that the revisions would still cause problems for mean millions. The regulations are so bad for workers that some state legislatures have even rushed through legislation to block them (4).

The new overtime regulations come just four months after AP reported that the Bush Labor Department began "giving employers tips on how to avoid paying overtime to some of the 1.3 million low-income workers" (5). The Administration specifically told employers they could "cut workers' hourly wages and add the overtime to equal the original salary, or raise salaries to the new $22,100 annual threshold, making them ineligible." Labor Secretary Elaine Chao testified before Congress that too many workers were filing "needless litigation" in efforts to force employers to pay them back wages (6). Her insult to workers belied the fact that judges have ordered the government to "collect more than $212 million in back pay for workers" - the most in a decade and a strong signal that the efforts to fight worker abuse are far from "needless."
