Ya'll, please say a little prayer for Arnett. For those who don't know, he has had health problems for a number of years. It all started with high blood pressure, which has caused him kidney, liver and thyroid problems. He has had a really rough ride for the last ten years or so. His kidneys only operate at 30% and 15% respectively, as it is.

A bunch of us are planning on going to Santa Fe, NM at the end of April. However, our trip plans depend on how his health is faring. We were supposed to try to finalize our plans after he got some test results yesterday.

And here's the latest news:

Hi guys-

Well, the news is not good. Arnett's tests on his kidneys were alot worse this time. They were so much worse that the Dr. is going to repeat them Monday to be positive of the results. We will see the Dr. again next Thursday for a report. If the new tests confirm the last tests, he will immediately start taking 60mg of prednisone (steroid). We are both pretty discouraged about this as you can imagine. It has also been determined that Arnett was exposed to hepatitis C sometime 25-30 years ago. That would put it about the time he was in the Navy. The largest group of people with exposure to hepC are Viet Nam era vets. So, there ya go. He has never had a problem with it before, but now, his liver enzymes are elevated. Before you all get hysterical, let me tell you that this is NOT sexually transmitted. I am in no danger and never have been. As you guys know by now, poor Arnett can't come close to a germ without it jumping on him. Anyway, we kind of expect that he will have chronic problems pretty much from now on. You just never know. I don't really like to dump all this in an email but I don't want to have to tell it a hundred times either. I'm sure you all understand.

As far as Santa Fe goes....... I just can't say for sure. If he feels ok, we will go. We just kinda have to wait and see. I'm really sorry about that. I think you guys had better just figure out what you want to do and do it. We will be making every attempt to be there cuz he really wants to go, but??????

Sorry for the bad news. I am trying to keep his and my spirits up. He's a wonderful man, as you all know. And he's strong. We'll be ok.

Love you all,
b

Arnett has been on steroids before. They made him gain weight, of course, and made him feel just awful, all of the time.

I feel so bad for him. He has already given up so many things that make his life enjoyabale, and apparently it hasn't worked. Were I him, I'd probably be saying "Fuck this noise! I'm just gonna eat what I want, drink what I want and smoke what I want, since apparently living like a monk doesn't help me anyway!"

It's all very discouraging, to say the least.
