Happy Birthday To: Dan Ackroyd, born this day in 1951 and to Debby Harry, born this day in 1945 (I cant believe shes older than Dan Ackroyd). Also, on this day in 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg began. ~~~ You know what I love? I love it when you ask a question that has two possible answers and the answer you receive is Yes. Case in point (you wont understand the details, but youll get my drift): -----Original Message----- From: Karen Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2004 11:01 AM To: The Little Big Man Cc: Kim, Dan P. (Inventory Analyst in Columbus) Subject: RE: SO0610091 Isn't this one where I should just create an order which doesn't pick or can we just take this order off of hold and accomplish the same thing? Regards, Karen -----Original Message----- From: Dan P. (Inventory Analyst in Columbus and not the guy to whom this question was addressed, but whatever) Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2004 11:01 AM To: Karen Cc: Kim, The Little Big Man Subject: RE: SO0610091 That is correct. Umwhich one is correct, ya numb nuts? In other exciting news, I just gave blood. Were having a blood drive at work todayand a whopping fifteen people made appointments to donate. Fifteen people! If the Red Cross wasnt so desperate for donations, they wouldnt have bothered coming out here for that. I'm so sick of hearing "I don't like needles." You know what? You especially won't like them when you have an accident and have them all over you. And where the hell are they going to get blood to replace those pints of yours that are now wetting down the fast lane of the freeway, after your accident? I mean, nobody "likes" needles. I understand that some people have serious issues and like pass out when they give blood. But how many people? Most of these I dont like needles people are just selfish, if you ask me. They don't even have to drive out the to freakin' Red Cross center - they came to us! It takes half an hour out of your precious time to give blood and here at work youre even getting paid for that time. Its not even uncomfortable, ya big babies. So here is my plea to all of you, especially in the state of California. The American Red Cross is dangerously low on their blood supply. DANGEROUSLY LOW is not an exaggeration (especially in California, where we now have to import blood from other states, just to take care of our basic daily needs). What happens when we have an emergency situation? Everyone is worried about a terrorist attack, but few people actually do anything to prepare for one this is something you can do. And were guaranteed to have another big earthquake here in Cali. what happens then? Sorry about that big gash on your head there, little kid, but I simply have no blood to give you. Youre just gonna have to bleed to death, like all of the other people who were in that building when the roof caved in. Please make an appointment to give blood. Right now, while youre thinking about it. Here is the web page where you can find a donation center near you. Call them and make your appointment. I really dont mind if you leave my web page so you can do this very important thing. How many opportunities do you have to save someones life? Donating blood can and will save lives. Do it now, and do it often. If nothing else, youll feel good about yourself for having done it. Dont wait until we have an emergency situation. A) Thats too late its not like they pump the blood out of you and straight into the arm of head-bashed-in-kid. B) As stated, we need blood every day and our every day supply is dangerously low. ~~~ Protect Medical Marijuana Patients The Ashcroft Justice Department continues to spend millions of dollars arresting cancer, AIDS, and MS patients who use medical marijuana even in states where it is legal. Next week, Congress will vote on an amendment that would stop Ashcroft's war on medical marijuana patients. We need you to fax your U.S. Representative today and urge them to support the amendment. ACTIONS TO TAKE 1) E-mail your Representative 2) Forward this alert to your friends and family. MORE INFO Responding to growing conflict between the states and the federal government over the issue of medical marijuana, Rep. Hinchey (D-NY) and Rep. Rohrabacher (R-CA) will again offer an amendment to the Commerce-Jusitce-State spending bill that would prevent the U.S. Justice Department from undermining state efforts to provide terminally ill and chronic pain patients access to doctor-recommended medical marijuana. The amendment would prohibit the Justice Department from spending any money on arresting or prosecuting medical marijuana patients in states where medical marijuana is legal. 152 members of Congress voted for a similar amendment last year. Since 1996, 11 states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and Washington) have adopted medical marijuana laws. The U.S. Justice Department, however, continues to spend millions of dollars arresting medical marijuana patients and their caregivers - even in states where medical marijuana is legal. At a time when violent drug cartels remain at large and threats of terrorism continue to emerge, it is irresponsible for the Justice Department to jeopardize public safety by wasting scarce law enforcement resources conducting raids on hospice centers and medical marijuana patients. The Hinchey-Rohrabacher medical marijuana amendment would not prevent the Justice Department from arresting people using, growing, or selling marijuana for recreational use. Nor would it prevent the Justice Department from arresting medical marijuana patients in the states that have not approved the drug for this use. It simply prevents the federal government from arresting cancer, AIDS and MS patients that use marijuana for medical reasons in states that have adopted medical marijuana laws. Substantial majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents support medical marijuana. A 2001 Pew Research Center poll found that 73% of Americans support medical marijuana. A 2002 Time/CNN poll found that 80% of Americans support it. The Institute of Medicine has determined that nausea, appetite loss, pain and anxiety "all can be mitigated by marijuana." Allowing cancer, AIDS, and MS patients legal access to medical marijuana is supported by the American Nurses Association, American Public Health Association, American Bar Association, the Whitman-Walker Clinic, and Kaiser Permanente, among other groups. ~~~ Letter from the Chairman [of the California Democratic Party]: The National Rifle Association is at it again, and their lobbying is threatening once more to cost lives. The federal assault weapons ban expires in just 10 weeks, on September 13. The ban has been in place for 10 years and has helped to keep ultra-dangerous assault weapons like AK-47s and Uzis off the streets. Now, despite the overwhelming support of the American people (by 77%, 66% among gun owners) and the majority of police officers across the country, the Republicans are balking at renewing the ban. The NRA has thrown everything into helping to stop the issue from coming to a vote on the Senate floor. Also, President Bush said in 2000 that he would sign a ban, yet his Administration has "done nothing" to encourage a vote on the issue. If the ban does not get extended, [Diane] Feinstein says that you can expect the market to become flooded with these machine guns. There are only a limited number of legislative days left in the Senate before the ban on these weapons expires. The American people need to be protected from these needless weapons of mass destruction. Here is what you can do: Go to Senator Feinsteins web page and become informed about this vital issue and read how you can help. Call the White House switchboard, (202) 456-1414, and Attorney General John Ashcrofts office, (202) 514-2000, to let them know what you think of their disregard for the American publics safety. (And bra2002, this one's for you): Need more proof that the Republicans are behind the scenes helping out Ralph Naders fledgling candidacy? Conservative Republican organizations in Oregon asked their members to attend a convention on June 26 to collect 1,000 signatures to get Ralph Nader on the ballot in that state. The Associated Press reports that the Oregon Family Council and Citizens for a Sound Economy were making hundreds of phone calls asking their members to attend the Nader convention, saying their goal is to draw as many votes away from John Kerry as possible. Oregon Family Council official Mike White said he was encouraged by someone in the Oregon GOP to help boost turnout for Naders convention. Despite this, Naders second attempt to get on the Oregon ballot does not appear to have captured enough signatures to qualify. In other news, the Arizona Democratic Party has sued Nader for invalid signatures submitted in order to qualify himself for the ballot in that state. Two facts are also tainting his bid: first, that the Nader campaign hired the same firm that was circulating a right wing anti-immigrant petition, and second, that the Nader petition drive was financially assisted by the former Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, ultra-conservative Nathan Sproul. . . Sincerely, Senator Art Torres (Ret.) Chairman, California Democratic Party The Nations Rich Get Richer... The California Democratic Party This is outrageous: If a bill would have passed last week, those making more than $1 million would be paying their fair share of taxes - about $124,000 annually. Not $24,000. But that latter number is what they will pay now, even though all of California's Democrats voted against it while all Republicans voted for it. This is another great reason why you need to get involved in party politics. |
