Every Tuesday and Thursday for the time being I will be coming in to work at like 7:30 so I can leave by 4:30 for my training walks (see word for the day, below. Hee!). Well, except that (as I mentioned yesterday) Thursday I have to miss the second of my scheduled walks so I can go meet up with other Kucinich supporters. I still have to leave early, though, because I have to drive down to Irvine for that. They didnt have enough volunteers in Long Beach to hold a meeting there. Im hoping that changes for future meetings because driving to Irvine in the midst of rush hour traffic is not my idea of fun. The freeways I have to take on this particular drive are the absolute worst as far as traffic is concerned and I have developed a serious case of road rage lately. Ive decided that whenever I start to get pissed off on the road I am going to flash the I love you sign-language sign, or the Peace sign. Im hoping the flashing of the sign will subconsciously affect my outlook. Of course, since I made this decision I have not once remembered to do it and I even flipped someone off on Saturday morning (he deserved it, the fuck head).
Speaking of politics, Howard Dean was on the Today show this morning and I actually got to see his entire interview. I like him. Hes my second choice (plus, he actually has a chance of winning, whereas I dont honestly think Kucinich has a chance in hell). He seems to be a real straight-shooter; no bull-shit. Hes on the cover of the new Time and Newsweek, so you can read all about him. I like that hes an actual alternative to Bush, too, whereas I consider Kerry, Lieberman, Gephardt et al to really be Bush-Lite. Ive been spending the morning touting the merits of Howard Dean to Barbara. Youd think I were working on his campaign, rather then Kucinichs. Dean is my second choice (and as I said above, I think he has a much better chance of winning then does Kucinich), I just agree with Kucinich on more issues so my heart lies with him right now. However, I think Barbara would be more of a Dean person and I want to steer her away from that stinkin Kerry. By the way, it should be noted that one issue on which I disagree with Kucinich (the only issue I have come across, thus far) is Iraq. He wants our troops to withdraw immediately. This is not realistic and would spell disaster not only for Iraq but for us, down the line. Dean was against the war, but says (like I do) that now that were there we have to work with NATO and the UN and do this right. He thinks the same about Afghanistan. No more working with Warlords who were at one time working with Al Qaeda (which is what Bush is doing) I want peace too and dont want our guys pegged off one by one, either, but were already there we cant abandon those people. We did that before, in Afghanistan, and we pissed off one hell of a lot of people, including Osama Bin Laden (remember him?). We trained Osama, if youll recall. We helped him and his people boot Russia out of their country. We made promises that we would help them rebuild in the aftermath. And then we abandoned them. And we made a lot of enemies in the process. And as an addendum to a previous rant, let me just say that I am very glad we now have at least a small peacekeeping unit on the ground in Liberia. I still feel we are unable to put our troops where our mouth is because of the issues I ranted about previously, but better something than nothing I guess. ~~~ constitutional kon-stih-TOO-shuhn-uhl; -TYOO-, noun: A walk taken for one's health. |
