Wow. So much going on over the past couple of days. First of all: Work stuff. Umso I guess I never mentioned it, but about ten days ago I had a little one-on-one meeting with one of the owners of my company. He had them with everybody, in an effort to collect our ideas, opinions and what not. He does this every year. Well, during our meeting, while discussing the "dead weight" we seem to adore carrying around here, I basically ratted out this gal who is really bad at her job and her manager appears to be doing nothing about it. Seriously, she makes so many errors that some of our customers have threatened to stop doing business with us. Um...well, yeah...she got fired yesterday. OK, Im not saying her getting fired has anything to do with me, but...well, just let this be a lesson to those of you who may choose to piss me off, in future. Also just over $600 cash is missing from our office. Some of our smaller customers occasionally will call their orders. If these customers dont have a line of credit with us, they have to pay for their order at the Will Call window. Sometimes, they will do so with cash. The gals at the will call window collect all of the payments and bring them to me or Alanna (she posts all of our payments). I (or the Little Big Man, in my absence) have to sign off on any cash received and everything goes in to the safe in our department. Well, it turns out that back on July 25 one of the will call gals collected over $600 for someones order. $600 which apparently never made it to our department and the safe. It was never posted to this customer's account, nor do we have it anywhere, nor has it been misposted. It's just plain missing. The will call gals keep a log of payments collected and the $600 is on their log. What happened to that money after they logged it is beyond me, but there are many holes in our system and it is anybodys guess at this point. I have no idea what happened with this money and its driving me crazy. This has never happened before. I dont really know the will call gals that well, but I just dont see either of them risking their job in order to steal $600 (especially when they might have had a lot more money just last week, if they were really interested in stealing). The only other people who really could have been involved are me, Alanna or LBM and I totally trust all of us. There is an outside chance that someone else might have had access to the money, but its an outside chance. And we cant prove anything. Nobody can figure out for sure what happened. Crazier is the fact that I have said several times that we need to make the will call process a lot more secure than it is. Now maybe people will actually take that advice to heart. Of course, in the meantime, one of the will call gals (the one who logged the money) may be getting in to big trouble for something that really isn't her fault. The fault lies in a fallible system, not in her lap (unless, of course, someone can actually prove she is at fault). That sucks. ~~~ In nicer news, Amy and I went to see Mars last night. It was very cool. The Griffith Observatory is closed for remodeling, but they threw a party at a satellite office they had set up. Amy and I looked at Mars through various telescopes, getting different views all of them fascinating. I saw Mars polar ice cap (kind of like their South Pole) through a few; saw its gray spot through one of them. It was really groovy. Of course, I didnt get to bed until 4:00am, as a result of my Mars-watching. Waking up this morning? Not so groovy. It was totally worth the lack of sleep though. Plus, Amy is just a doll-face. Oh and she's seeing someone new and seems very excited about him. :) ~~~ I think I may go see Satellite Dogs tonight at an Irish pub, Brennans. If I can stay awake, that is. In truth, right now I am sort of on auto-pilot and dont even feel tired. Who knows what Ill feel like by the end of the day, though. Hasta, kids! ~~~ In case you missed it, go back one entry to see Dubya's "Resume'". It's...an eye-opener. ~~~ dour DOO-uhr; DOW-uhr, adjective: 1. Harsh; stern. 2.
