somebody out there loves me

Once in his life, every man is entitled to fall madly in love with a gorgeous redhead
-Lucille Ball

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
--Theodore Roosevelt, 1918

The Friday Five:

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones?
I watch a lot of basketball, both the NBA and NCAA. I will also watch, on occasion, football and baseball. Both kind of bore me, but there are teams I am interested in and certain people I socialize with who love one or the other and force games upon me until I agree to be slightly interested. I used to love both baseball and football, but the more I watched basketball, the more I realized that the games are soooosloooooooowwwww

2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes?
LA Lakers. University of Kentucky Wildcats. I like a lot of other teams, too, though. Most of my favorite players dont play anymore (Kareem, Magic, Dominique Wilkins, etc.) but I still like an awful lot of them.

The real question is, will I still hate Gary Payton and Karl Malone now that they are Lakerscuz boy howdy did I hate them before!

3. Are there any sports you hate?
Bullfighting.

4. Have you ever been to a sports event?
Many.

5. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play?
I played softball from the age of nine until sixteen, both in Little League and on my school team. I played basketball for a few years, I stopped after my Sophomore year of high school (all of a sudden, everyone seemed a whole lot taller than I). I played field hockey for two seasons in high school (and let me just say those field hockey gals are vicious, man!). I used to play tennis a lot, too, but I never got very good at it...um...I think thats it. Nowadays, I work out but rarely participate in organized sports (occassional softball or tennis game aside).

Oh my gosh, people. Remember yesterday's pledge to commit suicide if a certain Bachelor gets a record deal? Um...not that I don't like to adhere to my commitments or anything, but...lookie here.

EEEK!!!

Guantanamo Security Breaches Probed

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL STATION, Cuba (AP) - Two dozen investigators began searching for possible security breaches Thursday at the U.S. prison camp for terror suspects, where espionage charges have heightened tensions among soldiers. Sources familiar with the investigation said two more arrests may be imminent.

Investigators from the Miami-based U.S. Southern Command reported to the island Wednesday, a day after the arrival of five non-American-born Arabic interpreters contracted by the same company that employed an American translator accused of spying

Does anybody else find it odd that The Bush Administration is all keen on finding the root of these Guantanamo security breaches while apparently not giving a shit about a CIA informant being outed to the press?

Frankly, I have my own suspicions about security breaches in Guantanmo Bay. Suffice it to say, my hunch is that no security has been breached at all, in the purest sense of those words. I think some people dont like what is going on down there and have attempted to leak Human Rights abuses to the press. And that has made our military very angry.

Of course, I really have no idea, but thats my hunch.

Meanwhile, back at home...

Dear MoveOn member,

Today we're giving you a chance to clear your name. We're asking you and tens of thousands of other MoveOn members to sign an affidavit affirming that you didn't leak the identity of an undercover CIA agent to the press last July.

Here's why:

President Bush told the press on Tuesday that he doesn't "have any idea" whether the senior administration officials who blew a CIA operative's cover will ever be found. But if he just asked his staff to sign a legally binding affidavit confirming that they weren't involved, and referred anyone who wouldn't to the FBI, it's possible he could flush out the perpetrators in a day. To date, the President hasn't even discussed this matter with his staff...

On Sunday, Reuters reported that Valerie Plame, the CIA agent whose cover was blown "was probably the single highest target of any possible terrorist organization or hostile intelligence service that might want to do damage," according to a former senior CIA official. It's now clear that the leakers in the White House are willing to put national security and the lives of CIA operatives in danger for their own ends. But President Bush seems unconcerned -- he hasn't even looked into who it might be.

Here are a few quotes from the Bush Administration that give some contrast to the task of finding the leakers.

On finding Osama Bin Laden in Central Asia:
"We're going to hunt them down one at a time...it doesn't matter where they hide, as we work with our friends we will find them and bring them to justice."
--President George W. Bush, 11/22/02

On finding Saddam Hussein in the Mideast:
"We are continuing the pursuit and it's a matter of time before [Saddam] is found and brought to justice."
--White House spokesman McClellan, 9/17/03

On finding the leaker in the close confines of the White House:
"I don't know if we're going to find out the senior administration official. I don't have any idea."
--President George W. Bush, 10/7/03

President Bush can do better than that. He could start by simply asking his staff to sign a legally binding affidavit. Show the President how easy it is. Sign the affidavit and send it on to the President today here.

It's been three months since Valerie Plame's identity was leaked to the press. The time for President Bush to take command and find the leakers is long overdue.

Sincerely,
--Carrie, Eli, Joan, Noah, Peter, Wes, and Zack
