Hi guys-

The news is not good. He's worse. You know how I told you that it was good for him to lose a little weight cuz that would be water retention, but not good to lose a lot of weight cuz that would mean his kidneys were failing? Well, he lost 20 lbs from November to February, but he lost 7 more lbs in this last week. Not good. His kidney function is down and going fast.

So, he is starting large doses of steroid today. They have to stop this and stabilize him again or it's dialysis time. The problem is they don't really know why this is happening right now. He was stable for 4 years and then boom! If they can get him stabilized, he can stay stable again, so that is our goal. Now, the side effects from prednisone are "moon face and hunchback". And those are the not so bad ones. So, don't make fun of him and call him Quasimoto or anything. (hee hee).

As you can imagine, I am stunned and very devastated. It's not easy to hide it either but he's really upset that "I have to go through this with him", so I do my best to keep it light. We went out to dinner last night and he had a great meal and a glass of wine. He was in heaven for that short time. Now, back to the grindstone.

He still says he's going to Santa Fe, but we really don't know. That's the least of my worries at this moment. If we have our way, we will go because as I've always said, we all need to travel and do these fun things when we are able to. I am soooooo glad we went to Alaska last year. It's gonna be a long time, if ever, that he will be able to do that again.

Thanks for all your good thoughts and please keep up the positive vibe! We feel it!

Love,
b

Oh yeah, I forgot, regarding his hepatitis......it's not too much of a problem right now. He will see a specialist but they aren't worried about it now.

The Friday Five:

If you...

1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?

I have a plan to own a restaurant/bar with Barbara, Cathy and Arnett. As bar-b-que is Arnetts specialty, it would be a bar-b-que place and smokehouse. Of course, there would be a whole part of the menu dedicated to those like me who do their best to stay far away from the dreaded condiment. Menu selections will include The ikss Burger AB (Absolutely Bare)

2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
Vinyl records

3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be?
Fiction or a book of poetry

4. ...ran a school, what would you teach?
Humanities.

5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
I always wanted to record with a band who is not limited by genre; one who would be just as comfortable playing Country as they would R&B or Rock. I love it all and love to sing it all.

Good News of the Day:
Ralf Hotchkiss was paralysed in a motorcycle crash in 1966 when he was a freshman at Oberlin College, Ohio. Within minutes of leaving hospital he was sowing the seeds of his future career - developing and supplying wheelchairs for the Third World. And these countries, he says, have a lot to teach us about the needs of disabled people.

Be The Change:
Over 100 million children, teens and adults worldwide are in need of a wheelchair but cannot afford one. For next birthday gift you have to give, gather some friends and donate a wheelchair!
